iciHaiti - Social : Launch of the 2026 Francophonie Fortnight

On Friday, March 6, 2026, the Government officially launched the 2026 Francophonie Fortnight, themed "Youth’s Contribution to a More Peaceful World". The Prime Minister sees the choice of this theme as a sign of hope, recognizing Haitian youth as the essential driving force for building a peaceful and prosperous future.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé commended the commitment of the national and international institutions involved. He particularly congratulated Ms. Raina Forbin, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, for her leadership during the opening ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony brought together several key figures, demonstrating the strength of the ties within the Francophone community. The French Ambassador, Antoine Michon, reiterated that the Francophonie is a space of humanism. He notably highlighted the national podcast competition "Haiti, Land of Pride," which allows young people from different departments to showcase their regions. Emmanuel Ménard, the new Minister of Culture, emphasized the role of the French language, alongside Creole, as a vehicle for freedom and social cohesion. For her part, Foreign Minister Raina Forbin reaffirmed Haiti's unwavering commitment to the ideals of peace and solidarity of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), while also commending the OIF's continued support for the country's stability.

This two-week event will feature conferences, screenings, and cultural gatherings throughout the country. It benefits from the joint efforts of the relevant ministries, the State University of Haiti (UEH), and the National Television of Haiti (TNH).

By reaffirming Haiti's commitment to the values of cultural diversity and cooperation, the Government hopes that these activities will sustainably strengthen social cohesion and promote Haitian culture.
