Cap-Haitien mayor's office stands with the victims of the Cluny market fire

The Cap-Hautien municipal administration is in discussions with vendors affected by the fire at the Cluny Market on January 24, 2026. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46714-haiti-flash-major-fire-at-the-cluny-market-in-cap-haitien.html "We are visiting the market and seeing the situation firsthand.

We have observed a significant recovery in activity across much of the market, despite the ongoing challenges. However, we remain aware that some vendors are still suffering, as the condition of the market building prevents us from authorizing their use in its current state.

The municipal administration will continue to take all necessary measures, both from the central government and its partners, to support the vendors and expedite the market's restoration.

We hear the voices of the merchants. We understand their demands, we understand their pain, and we understand their expressed desire to return to the market and resume their activities."

Today, many of them have to sell outside, under difficult conditions.

But it is important for everyone to understand that the decision to limit access to the inside of the market is not an easy one, but depends on the severity of the fire damage, as well as safety concerns for everyone.

We ask all vendors who wish to return to the market to be patient. The administration is working to create a temporary space for them and establish safer and more sustainable conditions so they can resume their activities normally.

We remain committed to supporting the vendors until the market's economic activity returns to normal.
