Cap-Haitien : Turbulent operation to clear sidewalks (video)

On Monday, June 1st, as announced, the Cap-Haitien Municipal Administration, in close collaboration with the Police and municipal security agents, conducted several operations in the city center, removing a large number of tables, tents, equipment, and other installations that were illegally occupying sidewalks, streets, and other public spaces for commercial or other unauthorized activities. These operations were met with protests and strong reactions from vendors.

This action is in line with the principles publicly reiterated by the Municipal Commission : "Sidewalks for pedestrians, markets for vendors, and streets for vehicles".

Therefore, all individuals occupying sidewalks, streets, or other public spaces not intended for their activities must take steps to vacate these spaces immediately.

This measure specifically concerns the following areas: 2A to 2L Street, 6A to 6L Street, 7A to 7L Street, 11A to 11G Street, and 12A to 12L Street, as well as all other streets in the city center.

The Municipal Administration clarified that the objective of these operations is to reclaim public spaces to improve pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow, reduce congestion in the city center, and enhance public safety.

The Municipal Commission thanks all citizens who have chosen to cooperate with these measures and invites everyone to continue respecting the rules governing the use of public spaces, in the interest of the organization and development of the city of Cap-Haïtien.
