Monitoring of hydro-agricultural projects in Corail, Haiti

In Corail, in the Grand'Anse department, construction of the irrigation system undertaken as part of the Resilient Agriculture for Food Security Project (PARSA) is progressing according to schedule.

To ensure the quality of the work and adherence to deadlines, Ralph Wendy Despeines, the Departmental Director of Agriculture, conducted a site visit on Tuesday, June 30th, to assess the progress of the work and meet with the technical teams working on the site.

During this visit, which allowed for an observation of the progress made in the execution of the various components of the project, Despeines was accompanied by PARSA staff and representatives of the World Food Programme (WFP), which is responsible for constructing the irrigation system in the commune of Corail, specifically in the 3rd communal section, Champy (Campêche locality), on behalf of PARSA.

The construction of this irrigation system aims to strengthen the production capacity of rice farmers in Corail by guaranteeing them a more stable water supply, essential for rice cultivation. This infrastructure will also reduce the constraints associated with periods of drought, improve agricultural yields, and promote better value creation for rice farms in Grand(Anse.

From an educational standpoint, the construction of this irrigation system will have a direct impact on school canteens by guaranteeing a supply of locally produced rice, thus reinforcing the inseparable link between agriculture, nutrition, and education, serving the development of future generations.
