iciHaïti - FLASH : In an emergency, the Government declares war to wastes
Wednesday, at the significant increase in waste that clog the channels and invade the sidewalks and streets especially in the capital, President ai Jocelerme Privert, Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles and several ministers concerned held a working session around the urgent problem of waste disposal in the metropolitan area and provincial towns.

Recall that Port-au-Prince and the metropolitan area produce each day on average between 6,000 and 8,000 tons of waste. At the capital, only 28% of wastes are collected. The capacity of waste collection of the Service Metropolitan Solid Waste Collection (SMCRS) is only 13% of the volume of garbage produced each day. For their part, private operators collect daily 15%. In summary, 72% of waste produced in the metropolitan area are not picked up.

Faced with this harmful situation for the environment and for the health of the population, Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles announced the urgent establishment of a "task force", which will have by Monday, April 4 present a rapid response plan against unhealthy that will specify "[...] very clearly exactly what we will do, who will
intervene and how much it will cost to clear the streets of rubbish in emergency."
