On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the United Nations team in Haiti is launching the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence on Friday 25 November.

This year, the campaign pays special attention to women affected by Hurricane Matthew in a natural post-disaster context, which according to experts increases the risk of gender-based violence and reduces women's access to HIV / AIDS services. Such as maternal health care and sexual and reproductive health. Among the 1.4 million people most affected by Matthew in Haiti, about 200,000 women urgently need protection services.

The campaign proposes more than twenty different activities such as awareness-raising workshops, artistic projects (related to music, painting and poetry), mobile clinics, a football match of an UN team with the national women's sub-16 team and advocacy for sexual and reproductive health, and for the prevention of diseases such as AIDS.

The color orange will be the symbol that will dress the events and buildings of the United Nations, in the world and in Haiti, in order to reaffirm their support to advance in the equality of the genre
