On Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele addressed a new message to the Haitian people, which we publish here in its entirety :

"People of Haiti,

Dessalines liberated Haiti, but some of those close to him betrayed and murdered him, individuals who looked like him and spoke the same language, yet did not share his principles. They were traitors who sought only their own personal gain, plunging Haiti into generations of suffering and misery.

These traitors still exist in Haiti today. They are not the heirs of Dessalines; in reality, they are the heirs of the very people who murdered him and destroyed his legacy. Some are gang members, others fund these groups or supply them with weapons; and some do everything in their power to prevent the Haitian people from attaining their freedom.

While it is true that many foreigners have plundered Haiti, many Haitians have done the same. They have collaborated with these foreigners, wielded their weapons, trafficked their drugs, controlled territories on their behalf, and inflicted unimaginable suffering upon the people.

Do you believe these foreigners could have accomplished all this without the help of such individuals ? Who threatens us with a weapon ? Who kills our loved ones ? Who has stolen our homes and our property, if not the same kind of treacherous bandits as those who betrayed and murdered Dessalines ? We can help you defeat them, but we are not invaders. We are people who possess the same courage as you. We must rise up, regain control of our communities, and neutralize those who inflict so much pain and suffering upon us.

We will be there, by your side. We will help you reclaim your country from the hands of those who have betrayed the legacy of Dessalines.

And, in the end, Haiti will be free."
