iciHaiti - Social : Haiti needs at least 500,000 housing
Tuesday was held the 2nd edition of "Matcon Connect" a platform for construction companies, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti (AmCham).

In his speech, the Vice-President of the Chamber, Daniel Jadotte, stressed that the demand for housing in Haiti was estimated at around 500,000 units and that it was important for the construction sector to benefit from the aid of the State in order to offer housing and houses at affordable prices for the population. He said he expected to wait for the next Government, pro-active policies on the construction of social housing, generating jobs and creating wealth.

According to him, land problems, lack of information, lack of access to credit and competition from foreign firms, including the Dominican Republic, are the main obstacles to the development of Haiti's construction sector. He hopes that be included in the procurement laws, the possibility of offering subcontracts to national firms when foreign firms obtain contracts for public works.
