Thursday, July 26, as part of the National Day of Compas in Haiti, was held the unveiling of the bust of Nemours Jean Baptiste on Place Sainte-Anne in Port-au-Prince. Unveiling coinciding with the centenary of the father of music Compas, legendary figure of Haitian music, saxophonist, composer and leader of Nemours music band Jean Baptiste.

At the center of Place Sainte-Anne inaugurated in 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13274-haiti-reconstruction-inauguration-of-the-place-sainte-anne.html on the base where the bust of the musician rests, it is written "Fondation Compas direct, Nemours Jean-Baptiste, 2 février 1914 - 18 mai 1985" (Foundation Direct Compass, Nemours Jean-Baptiste, February 2, 1914 - May 18, 1985) with the drawing of a saxophone.

Third in a family of four children, Nemours Jean-Baptiste was born February 2, 1918 in Port-au-Prince. He was saxophonist, composer and leader of the band. He is credited with inventing, 63 years ago, Compas music, also known as Compas Direct.
