iciHaiti - Politic : The Committee of the States General in Jacmel and the Nippes

On 18 August, the city of Jacmel hosted, the preparatory forum of the States General Sectoral of the Nation (EGSN) with the participation of delegates from the 10 communes (Anse-à-Pitre, Bainet, Belle-Anse, Cayes Jacmel, Côte de Fer, Grand-Gosier, Jacmel, La Vallée-de-Jacmel, Marigot, Thiotte) and communal sections of the department.
Meeting in workshops, communal representatives mainly addressed issues related to the political regime in Haiti since the adoption of the 1987 Constitution and the lack of basic social services in communes and communal sections. Officials of the Communal Section Administration Boards (CASEC) took advantage of this forum to express their frustration with the slowness of the competent authorities to solve a number of problems at the local government level.
Monday in Miragoâne delegates from 9 communes of the department of Nippes in the presence of several advisers including former Prime Minister Evans Paul, the former Minister Rose Anne Auguste, professors Jean-Marie Theodat, Jean Lavaud Frédérick, Max Attys, Jean- Emmanuel Eloi and the Executive Secretary, Professor Louis Naud Pierre participated in the EGSN preparatory forum.
Delegates reflected on three major themes: political, economic and socio-cultural governance. They mentioned the need to endow the country with a strong state, to reduce the number of political parties, to make decentralization effective, to mechanize agriculture and to set up sports and cultural infrastructures in communes and communal sections of country. They also asked the authorities concerned to set up a social protection system and build reference hospitals and health centers in the communes and communal sections.
