Florida Federal Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga dismissed Guy Philippe's appeal (50 years) sentenced on June 22, 2017 to 9 years imprisonment for money laundering https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21301-haiti-flash-9-years-in-prison-for-guy-philippe.html on the grounds that Philippe's motion for annulment of his plea of guilty and his sentence based on the argument that he would not have received an effective defense of his lawyers, was not credible.
She recalls that Guy Philippe had agreed to plead guilty as a way of avoiding a life sentence, that in the context of the agreement with the US Attorney's Office, he agreed not to appeal his conviction or sentence.
According to Mr. Philip Pitzer, Guy Philippe's lawyer, despite this failure on appeal, his client is not discouraged and expressed his intention to challenge the decision of Judge Altonaga before the Federal Court of Appeal in Atlanta.
