Due to calls for general mobilization and new anti-government protests in Haiti this Sunday, June 9, the Ministry of Defense and the High Command of the Dominican Army announced the sending of military reinforcements at the border to make facing all eventualities.

"Preventatively and in order to maintain security at the border starting this Saturday, more military reinforcements continue to arrive in the border region," said a Ministry note that further adds Saturday's turning back of several hundred Haitians trying to enter the Dominican territory illegally. It should be noted that the number of Haitian illegal immigrants has been on the rise in recent days by several Dominican border communities, which are seeing entire families fleeing Haiti seeking refuge in the Dominican Republic.
