iciHaiti - Security : 35 accidents, 152 victims of the road
Garnel Michel Coordinator of the Haitian Organization Technical and Operational Services to Stop Accident (STOP-Accidents), informs us that from 19 to 25 August 2019, 35 accidents (- 28% compared to the previous week) on the roads of Haiti, have made at least 152 victims (-15.3%): 18 dead (+ 12%) and 134 wounded, several seriously.
Garnel Michel emphasizes that most of the victims are young people and children and deplores the fact that their numbers tend to increase, especially in the inter-municipal sections "without adequate roadside checks or preventive measures". He urges the authorities concerned to take measures to reduce the risk of accidents, mainly on national roads.
Remember that this weekly report was made in partnership with the National Ambulance Center (CAN) and the Haitian Red Cross. However, due to a lack of resources, the STOP-Accident organization is unable to monitor the state of health of the wounded, some of whom die as a result of their injuries and are not counted.
