iciHaiti - ONU : Serious concern of the BINUH faced the armed violence on Sunday

The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), expresses "its serious concern face the serious incidents of Sunday February 23" which left at least two dead and ten injured, property damage and the cancellation of the celebrations Carnival in Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien.

"The United Nations calls on all sectors of national life, in particular those elements of the National Police demanding better working conditions, to avoid any situation that could cause tensions to escalate and jeopardize the security of the population. They also call on the security forces to intervene in a proportionate manner and in full compliance with international standards."

Finally, the BINUH encourages all parties "to seek solutions by peaceful means within the framework of the functioning of democratic institutions and the parameters established by the Constitution of the Republic of Haiti."
