Ministry of Culture :
"The South East is in mourning and more particularly the city of Jacmel with the sad news of the death of the writer and poet Maurice-Cadet which occurred at his home on the night of Friday May 29 around 10:30 p.m.

He was one of the two founding members, still alive, of the Célie-Lamour high school (March 1956), and the designer of the tie fastened to the bodice of the uniform worn by the young girls of the said establishment and also the initiator of the carnival students at Jacmel. In this painful and sad circumstance, the Departmental Directorate of the MCC of the South-East sends its sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased affected by this mourning. That his soul rests in peace !" Pascarin Raymond, Departmental Director of the Ministry of Culture (South-East).

"The town hall of Jacmel learned with deep sadness, the distressing news of the sudden disappearance of the writer Maurice Cadet, our monument to the Jacmelian poetry eloquent speaker and friend.

"In this painful circumstance, the Municipal Council presents its sympathies to the family of the deceased, to his collaborators at the Maurice Cadet cultural center and to all those affected by this mourning. Peace and rest to his Soul !"

National Book Directorate :
"The National Book Directorate salutes the departure of the writer and professor Maurice Cadet, who died at his home in Jacmel, on May 29, 2020. At this painful moment, the General Management sends its sympathies to his grieving family, his friends and to the Haitian literary community."

Maurice Cadet poet, short story writer and essayist was born on June 20, 1933 in Jacmel. He had lived in Alma in Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec, Canada) since 1967. Before his arrival in Quebec, he taught in Port-au-Prince, in Jacmel, as well as in Zaire.

From 1967 to 1971, he worked as a teacher at L'Externat classique d'Alma and at Collège du Lac-Saint-Jean. From 1971 to 1995, he was professor of literature and literary creation at Cégep d'Alma.
