iciHaiti - Weather vigilance : New wave of sand mist

Wednesday Abner Septembre, the Minister of the Environment asks the population to remain vigilant during the passage over Haiti of the very dense mist of sand coming from the Sahara which affected the atmospheric conditions of the Caribbean basin since last Monday and which is gradually dissipating today and tomorrow in Haiti.

According to the Hydro-Meteorological Unit, a new wave of less dense sand mist will affect the region on Saturday and Sunday.

Minister Septembreexplained that this meteorological and environmental phenomenon which comes from the African continent through the Sahara Desert, has a close link between erosion, desertification and deforestation.

He also clarified that this mist of sand carries more than fifty particles, micro-organisms as well as heavy metals dangerous for health and invited the population to wear a mask, to reduce unnecessary travel and avoid outdoor sporting activities during this weather episode.
