iciHaiti - DR : Interception of 97 Haitians wanting to go illegally to Puerto Rico
On the night of August 26 to 27, the Dominican Navy intercepted and arrested 97 migrants of Haitian origin in an irregular migratory situation, 55 men and 42 women and a Dominican couple, while they tried to go illegally to Puerto Rico aboard a 40 foot long boat (Yola), from Boca de Laguna.

The migrants were immediately transferred to the Naval Intelligence Directorate M-2 located in the Los Mameyes sector (Santo Domingo East) before being handed over to the Migration authorities for repatriation to Haiti.

The Navy explained that the 40-foot-long boat that carried Haitians was equipped with two outboard motors of 75 horsepower each and a reserve of 14 cans of fuel. The boat was destroyed by the navy who declared that this interception avoided a tragedy at sea https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-34503-icihaiti-rescue-48-illegal-haitians-abandoned-on-an-island-in-the-strait-of-mona.html

In the case of the two Dominicans, M-2 investigators suspect that they are the organizers of this smuggling of migrants and are continuing their questioning.
