iciHaiti - Politic : Haiti reaffirms its adherence to the OAS Inter-American Democratic Charter
As part of the 20th Anniversary of the adoption of the InterAmerican Democratic Charter (the Charter) of the Organization of American States (OAS), His Excellency Ambassador Bocchit Edmond, Interim Permanent Representative of the Republic of Haïti to the OAS reaffirms the Haitian Government's commitment to the Democratic Charter, which embodies the noblest aspirations and the values of our peoples.

lndeed, Haiti, land offreedom, which, more than two centuries ago, set the example of the triumph of the rights to equality and freedom of all peoples in the world, especially those of African descent and indigenous populations against whom racial discrimination persists in the Western Hemisphere, and elsewhere,joins ail OAS member states, despite multiple difficulties, to work for the full and complete application of the Democratic Charter.

In addition, based on the letter and the spirit of the prescriptions of the Democratic Charter, the Govemment of the Republic of Haïti is working, during the interim period, to converge Haitian economic, intellectual, political and civil society actors on achieving an inclusive national agreement likely to lead to a new constitution that promotes a political system based on good govemance, free, fair and transparent general elections, as well as the adoption of a national trade and industrial policy that promotes development and respect for the economic, social and cultural rights that inspired the adoption, 20 years ago, of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
