iciHaiti - Technology : The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration is modernizing

Liszt Quitel, the Minister of the Interior, announced the systematic transition of the Units and Services of the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration DIE to digital and presented the main advances recorded at the level of this Directorate.

He pointed out that the use of New Information and Communication Technologies tools is already integrated into all processes for processing and issuing travel documents, residence permits, embarkation and disembarkation, the control of migratory flows at the country's ports, airports and borders and the control of foreigners on the territory.

In order to guarantee citizens wider and totally secure access to DIE products, passport applicants now have the option of submitting their applications by completing, online https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37082-haiti-flash-online-passport-application-very-soon.html , a form on the DIE website. This innovation began with travel agencies and will later extend to Haitians living abroad.

15 of the travel document request and delivery points and centers are currently interconnected. Is added to this a specific software that allows, without human intervention, a chronological and impartial processing of files and reduces the processing time.

In addition, Minister Quitelannounced that the databases of the National Identification Office (ONI) and the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) are now interconnected with the DIE, for faster and flawless verification of documents submitted by the applicants.

Thanks to this interconnection, the DIE has just opened a travel document personalization division for Haitians living abroad, which operates locally in Port-au-Prince. This temporary structure comes in support of the Passport Unit in Washington, in order to increase its production capacities and decongest its services, overwhelmed by the increase in current requests from abroad and from Chile in particular, according to the details of the Director of Information and Communication Technologies, Eng Jean Osselin Lambert.

Finally, with the support of other structures of the Government, 45 points of reception and delivery of passports, equipped with new operational digital technologies, will be housed in the Missions, Consulates and Embassies of Haiti throughout the world, indicated the Minister Quitel.
