iciHaiti - Obituaries : Death of the Haitian painter Hervé Télémaque
Emmelie Prophète Milcé, the Minister of Culture salutes the memory of the painter Hervé Télémaque (85), who died on November 10, 2022 at his home in Paris following a pulmonary embolism.

Minister Emmelie Prophète Milcé presents her condolences to the family and friends of Hervé Télémaque.

Find out more about Hervé Télémaque :
Hervé Télémaque was born in 1937 in Port-au-Prince. He left Haiti in 1957 to settle in New York and from 1961 he went to live in Paris. Associated with the currents of surrealism and narrative figuration, he was one of the artists exhibited at the Grand Palais in 2014 as part of the exhibition "Haiti two centuries of artistic creation".

His paintings are exhibited in several major museums around the world and the Pompidou Center in France devoted a retrospective to him in 2015, which was taken up at the Cantini in Marseille and in 2016 at the Fondation Clément in Martinique.

Télémaque was decorated with the Order of Arts and Letters in 1995 and the National Order of the Legion of Honor in 2006.

In 2010, to help Haitian artists who were victims of the earthquake and give them the means to start producing again, Hervé Télémaque sponsored an auction around the theme "Haiti Action Artists".
