Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in the morning on the Santiago Rodriguez-Mao road in the section known as Laguna de la Ceiba at least 10 out of 17 Haitians were injured, some of them seriously, in a road accident while they were crammed into a vehicle which was transporting them illegally and which violently crashed into another vehicle, for an undetermined reason.

Leaving Ounaminthe, the Haitians were going to Santiago and had each paid 12,000 pesos to the driver according to passengers

The injured, whose identity has not been communicated, were transferred by members of the security and emergency forces to various hospitals in the region.

Health authorities have not released the condition of the injured.

According to the Dominican National Police, the vehicle transporting the Haitians was driven by a Dominican who fled after the accident and who is actively sought.
