iciHaiti - Dom. Rep. : Illegal Haitians throw stones at immigration officers and police

On Friday, the Directorate General of Migrations (DGM) confirmed that it had arrested 78 Haitians in an irregular migration situation, several of whom threw stones at DGM agents and police, trying to flee a routine migration control.

The incident occurred when a DGM team attempted to stop a bus which refused to stop and fled before being intercepted by the police on the track of "La Rotonda" in the entrance to Cap Cana, in the province "La Altagracia". Dozens of illegal Haitian nationals on board then quickly descended, some threw stones at the migration agents and the police who were part of the screening operation, before all of them were finally caught up.

The DGM in a press release announced that 71 Haitians in an irregular situation will be repatriated to Haiti while 7 others will be brought to justice for having disturbed order on the public highway and assaulted DGM inspectors and police officers, after having refused to submit to routine immigration control. The DGM said it had video as evidence of what happened.
