iciHaiti - NOTICE : Armed demonstrations prohibited
In a note dated February 5, 2024, Me Edler Guillaume, Government Commissioner of Port-au-Prince takes note of all the demonstrations taking place in the capital in recent days. It recognizes the right of the population to demonstrate, in accordance with article 31 of the Haitian Constitution of 1987 which stipulates : "Freedom of association and assembly without weapons for political, economic, social, cultural or for any other peaceful purpose is guaranteed."

However, he recalls that it is prohibited to carry firearms or any other weapon that could endanger the lives of fellow citizens during demonstrations, again according to article 31.

"From February 5, any citizen caught with a weapon on the public highway during rallies will be hunted down by the police and brought before the courts as part of a fair trial.

The same goes for those who opt for violence by deliberately attacking lives and property.
