Godfrey Otunge, Commander of the Kenya-led multinational force in a statement, said that on Tuesday, July 30, around 3:15 p.m., Kenyans patrolling along the road linking the national hospital to the seaport of the National Ports Authority (APN), noticed a truck loaded with bags of rice being looted by armed individuals who had killed the driver.

The Kenyans immediately retaliated when the bandits opened fire on the patrol. A Kenyan officer of the patrol was shot in the shoulder during the operation and was evacuated to a hospital. The injured Kenyan is optimistic and is in stable condition awaiting further medical attention.

The bandits, several of whom were injured, managed to escape.
