iciHaiti - PNH : More than 2,000 participants in the Marathon for Peace (Video)

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, as part of the International Day of Peace, more than 2,000 participants from various neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince and other departments: young men and women, people with reduced mobility, as well as young children, took part in the "Marathon for Peace" organized by the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Saint Vincent de Paul Parish of Thomassin.

This event was supported by national and international partners, including the Community Police, the Community Violence Reduction Task Force (CVR) and the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Programs, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).

The marathon took place under the theme "Kous pou lapè" on a route linking the Pétion-ville Police Station to the Saint Vincent de Paul Parish of Thomassin 25.

The objective of this event was to promote a culture of Peace in Haiti, an issue that is all the more crucial in a context marked by armed violence and instability.

The massive participation of women was one of the highlights of this marathon, highlighting their essential role in promoting Peace.

The marathon also highlighted the promotion of the alliance between the Police and the population. Many participants were honored: the winners of the men's and women's categories came from Mirebalais, Cap-Haïtien, Jacmel, Arcahaie, Christ-Roi, Pétion-Ville, Les Cayes and Laboule. In the children's category, Jacmel won the award, while Jalousie, Margate and Thomassin were recognized in the category of people with reduced mobility.
