iciHaiti - Mass repatriations : Emergency meeting at MAHVE

Friday, October 4th, 2024, Dominique Dupuy, as Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), held an emergency meeting with Minister Georges Wilbert Franck (Social Affairs), the Minister Delegate for Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs, Herwill Gaspard, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, Ms. Christine Lamothe, in order to develop concrete strategies to accompany, protect and support our compatriots in the face of the Dominican authorities' announcement to deport up to 10,000 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation per week.

"It is essential that Haitian migrants be welcomed with respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. The Haitian Government, while favoring dialogue between the two countries in a spirit of mutual respect, is committed to demanding respect for the rights of migrants, in accordance with international conventions and binational agreements," said Dominique Dupuy,

Participating in this meeting were representatives of : the Zile Foundation, the Support Group for Repatriates and Refugees (GARR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the National Office for Migration (ONM), the Jesuit Refugee Service, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR), the United Nations Agency for Sexual and Reproductive Health (UNFPA) as well as MHAVE executives.
