Friday, February 28 in the evening, according to the Holy See Health Bulletin, "the Holy Father, early in the afternoon, after a morning spent alternating respiratory physiotherapy and prayer in the chapel, had an isolated attack of bronchospasm leading to an episode of vomiting with inhalation and a sudden worsening of his respiratory condition."
The Sovereign Pontiff was quickly broncho-aspirated and non-invasive mechanical ventilation was put in place, with a good response in terms of gas exchange. Pope Francis, conscious and alert, collaborated in the therapeutic care. "The prognosis remains reserved," concludes the official statement.
Saturday, March 1st, the Vatican indicates that Pope Francis spent a "quiet night and is resting."
