iciHaiti - Environment : Monitoring of construction work on multifunctional shelters
Under the leadership of Emmanuel Pierre, Director General of Civil Protection, as part of the Climate Risk Management and Resilience Project (PGRAC), funded by a World Bank grant, a mission assessed the progress of the project and ensured that everything is in place to provide safe and functional spaces for local communities.

It should be noted that the PGRAC is in line with the Disaster Risk Management and Reconstruction Project (PRGRD), which was implemented by the UCP/MICT between 2012 and June 2020, and from which it follows the broad outlines, concept, and implementation principles. The project's objective is to strengthen Haiti's preparedness and response capacity to major climate hazards and increase the number of safe shelters in regions with high climate risk.

To this end, the project aims to :

(i) Establish systems for providing guidance, advice, and support to national, departmental, and municipal institutions, the population, and community organizations in the municipalities targeted by the project in the areas of Risk and Disaster Management.

(ii) This project involves the construction of 20 multifunctional shelters strategically located throughout the country: 3 in the North, 3 in the Northwest, 4 in Nippes, 5 in the South, and 5 in Grand'Anse. This represents a strong symbol of commitment and protection for communities, just over two months before the start of the hurricane season.
