iciHaiti - Economy : The National Council of Cooperatives resumes its functions after 42 years of inactivity

After 42 years of inactivity, the National Council of Cooperatives (CNC) officially resumes its functions. The relaunch meeting was chaired by Ketleen Florestal, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, with the participation of Ministers Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé (Interior), James Monazar (Trade), Georges Wilbert Franck (Social Affairs), and Antoine Augustin (Education), as well as representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy.

This resumption marks a decisive step for the Haitian cooperative movement, 22 years after the crisis of confidence that led the government to regulate and supervise credit unions.

"This is a new era for the cooperative sector : an era of revitalization, inclusion, and solidarity," declared Minister Florestal. The members of the Board of Directors expressed their desire to support cooperative structures and ensure that the CNC plays its strategic role in building an inclusive and solidarity-based economy. "Cooperatives must once again become a driver of financial inclusion and rural development," stated a representative of the Board.

The state members will soon hold a second strategic meeting. This meeting will be preceded by an open dialogue with cooperative associations, unions, and forums to identify current challenges in the sector, stakeholders' priorities, and necessary adjustments, particularly in current legislation.

The relaunch of the CNC illustrates the government's commitment to building forward-looking governance. "The CNC's renewal is a pledge of modernization and a strong signal for a more prosperous future for rural communities and the Haitian economy," emphasized Florestal.
