iciHaïti - Jacmel : Government tour to assess areas hard hit by Melissa
On Friday, October 31, 2025, Divisional Commissioner Magalie Belneau, Departmental Director of the Haitian National Police (PNH - Southeast), accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Monette Jean-Julien, head of the Jacmel police station, welcomed a government delegation led by Leslie Voltaire, Presidential Transitional Advisor (CPT), along with Raphaël Hosty, Minister of Public Works, and his team. The delegation came to assess and plan reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the areas of Jacmel severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.

During the discussions, the delegation members met with the Mayor of Jacmel, the departmental delegate, the departmental directors of several ministries and decentralized agencies, as well as representatives of Civil Protection and civil society.

The delegation then visited the affected areas to conduct a detailed assessment of the damage.

The delegation visited, among other sites, the "Route de l’Amitié" (Friendship Road), National Road 4 (RN4), which was cut off by the swollen La Gosseline River at Bassin Caïman. In response, instructions were given to the Southeast Departmental Director of the Ministry of Public Works to establish a temporary detour. This measure aims to ensure traffic flow while long-term solutions are implemented to rehabilitate the severely damaged main road as quickly as possible.

This assessment is a crucial step for launching the reconstruction projects necessary for the region's recovery quickly and effectively.

The tour of the affected areas concluded with a debriefing meeting, where the current situation was summarized and future actions were planned. This initiative was enthusiastically received by the local population, who hope for swift and effective responses to overcome the challenges posed by Hurricane Melissa.
