iciHaiti - Health : Intensified Catch-Up Vaccination

Following the mid-term review of the Expanded Program on Immunization in July 2025, which identified the lowest-performing departments with the highest number of children who had received no doses and those who were under-vaccinated, the Directorate of the Expanded Program on Immunization of the Ministry of Public Health, with technical assistance from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), UNICEF, and support from the Government of Canada through the Canadian Global Immunization Equity Initiative (CanGIVE) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40777-haiti-canada-us$44m-to-fight-the-drop-in-the-vaccination-rate.html launched routine immunization scaling activities in the country's 10 health departments during October 2025. These interventions aimed to identify and vaccinate children who had received zero doses and those who were under-vaccinated, as well as to protect pregnant women who had not received their second dose of tetanus vaccine.

While data collection continues in the field, preliminary results are already encouraging: 18,626 children who had not received a single dose of vaccination and 15,085 children who were under-vaccinated have been updated, 5,889 pregnant women have received their tetanus vaccine dose, and 5,878 children aged 2 to 5 years have received booster doses against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis in the targeted communities.

These activities have been accompanied by awareness campaigns and community engagement, strengthening the demand for vaccination and families' trust in health services.
