iciHaiti - Politic : International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Montana Hotel, the Ministry for the Status of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF) participated in the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls during a ceremony that also marked the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism.

During the day, several speeches were given, highlighting the commitment of institutions and partners to the fight against violence against women and girls.

In her address, Pedrica Saint Jean, the Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, emphasized that the 16 Days of Activism require a collective mobilization of all institutions, civil society, feminist and women's organizations, partners, and young people. She warned against the rapid rise of cyberviolence, which isolates, humiliates, and silences far too many women, and reaffirmed her Ministry's commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and hate-free digital space.

Ms. Saint Jean outlined her Ministry's key commitments for this year: developing legislation against cyberviolence, creating a network of committed journalists, strengthening access to justice, and organizing a national forum on women's political participation and electoral violence. She emphasized the importance of supporting and empowering women in their civic engagement, especially as the next elections approach.

She also highlighted ongoing structural projects, including the opening of four Women's Centers, the continuation of socio-economic empowerment programs, and the implementation of strategic initiatives for 2025-2026. The Minister commended the essential role of feminist organizations, technical and financial partners, and ministry staff before officially opening the 16 Days of Activism.

In her remarks, Ms. Sophie Havyarimana, Deputy Representative of UN Women in Haiti, praised the Ministry of Women, Family and Women's Rights (MCFDF) for its commitment and reiterated that promoting gender equality and protecting women are priorities for sustainable development. She emphasized the importance of robust public policies, prevention programs, and ongoing monitoring to ensure that women and girls can live in a safe and respectful environment.

For his part, Samir Anouti, Resident Representative of the United Nations Agency for Sexual and Reproductive Health (UNFPA), highlighted the multifaceted consequences of violence on the physical and mental health of women and girls, while commending the Ministry for its central role in coordinating national prevention and protection efforts.

In her address, Marie Jeannette Salomon Bayeau, Coordinator of Women's and Gender Affairs at the Haitian National Police (PNH), raised concerns about the surge in reported cases of violence and called for collective and responsible mobilization from all national stakeholders, emphasizing that the safety of women and girls is a shared responsibility requiring vigilance and coordinated action.
