iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : Flooding in several areas of the city 06/01/2026 09:23:48
Heavy rains that pounded the city of Cap-Haitien from Sunday evening, January 4th, to Tuesday, January 5, 2026, caused flooding in several areas, notably Petite Anse and Cité du Peuple. Furthermore, large amounts of debris, water, and mud have inundated several sectors of the city center, paralyzing traffic, isolating neighborhoods, and bringing economic activity to a standstill. Markets are operating at a reduced capacity while residents remain confined to their homes to protect their belongings from the floods. The Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM) maintained its warnings on Monday due to a surface trough located east of Cuba that continues to supply a mass of very humid air to Haiti. The UHM warns of a high risk of flash flooding for the North, Northeast, and Northwest departments. Civil Protection is urging residents in areas at risk of flooding, landslides, and mudslides to remain vigilant. In Pétion-ville, heavy rains severely disrupted traffic in several areas of the municipality, particularly in the Delmas 97 and Delmas 101 zones. The streets were littered with mud and debris, making travel difficult. For businesses, the situation, while challenging, was slow. TB/ iciHaiti
