On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Dern Bonhomme, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Haiti to the Bahamas, received a visit from Steve Astrel Mathieu, President of the North Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIN).

The discussions between the two men focused on mechanisms to be put in place to strengthen and restructure trade relations between Haiti and the Bahamas, a member of the Commonwealth. In this regard, Haiti reaffirmed its full commitment to actively engaging in this cooperative dynamic, particularly in the strategic sectors of agriculture and fisheries, which are essential for sustainable development and the creation of economic opportunities.

"I would like to commend the responsible and forward-looking commitment of the Nortg Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti, as well as that of the Haitian entrepreneurs involved in this initiative." The Ambassador stated, adding, "All staff at the Haitian diplomatic and consular mission in the Bahamas remain fully committed to supporting and facilitating this initiative, which is part of a mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of both peoples."
