As part of the commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the earthquake of January 12, 2010, which cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of compatriots, the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago (DR) pays solemn tribute to the missing victims and salutes the courage, dignity and resilience of a community which chose to recover despite adversity.

Sixteen years after this national tragedy, the Consulate of Haiti in Santiago expresses its deep sympathy to all the victims as well as to the families who have lost a loved one. We send a message of courage and solidarity to those who, despite the scars left by this disaster, continue to smile, hope and give life.

January 12, beyond a moment of contemplation and memory, must also invite us to collective reflection around a renewed commitment to human values, solidarity and common responsibility. It is also an opportunity to think about the reconstruction, both individual and collective, of our society and our country. May the memory of the victims inspire us and may the light of their spirit guide us towards a future marked by Peace, hope, unity and solidarity.

The Consulate General of Haiti finally reiterates its unwavering commitment to the Haitian community in the Cibao region, supporting it, within the limits of its responsibilities, particularly during these periods marked by strong emotions and a deep feeling of nostalgia.
