iciHaiti - «Instituto Duartiano» : February 7, a «potential» threat to the Dominican Republic

On Sunday, January 19, 2026, as part of the 213th anniversary of the birth (January 26) of the patriot Juan Pablo Duarte, celebrated annually on January 26, Wilson Gómez, President of the Instituto Duartiano stated at a press conference that he was convinced that "the socio-political instability in Haiti continues to pose a danger to the Dominican Republic."

Wilson Gómez noted that since April 2024, Haiti has been "governed" by a Transitional Council whose objectives included organizing an electoral process, restoring order, and curbing the violence, but "gangs and violence still prevail."

He warned of the dangers that the end of the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council in Haiti, on February 7, 2026, could represent for the Dominican Republic, given the worsening political, social, and security crisis in the neighboring country.

He described this scenario as a "potential threat" emphasizing that this context increases migratory pressure. He also stated that it creates a climate conducive to conspiracies and actions by certain other countries that, in his view, could attempt to undermine the sovereignty of the Dominican Republic.
