iciHaiti - Health : OFATMA facilitates the medical evacuation of 5 Haitians to Cuba

The Office of Workplace Accident, Illness, and Maternity Insurance (OFATMA) informs that five Haitian citizens, including actress Katiana Milfort (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-46667-icihaiti-solidarity-actress-katiana-milfort-treated-in-cuba.html), have arrived in Cuba to receive medical treatment, having left Haiti on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in accordance with the recommendations of the healthcare professionals providing their care.

As part of this support, OFATMA provided administrative and logistical assistance, facilitating the travel arrangements and medical referrals for these five patients. The institution is pleased to have contributed to this collective effort, which is fully aligned with its mission of social protection and assistance to citizens facing medical situations requiring specialized care abroad.

OFATMA also commends the commitment of the Ministry for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, whose support was crucial in making this trip possible.

For several months, under the leadership of Director General Vikerson Garnier, numerous Haitian citizens have already benefited from medical evacuations to Cuba. These actions are part of a renewed health cooperation partnership with Cuban authorities, aimed at providing appropriate medical care to patients whose health requires it.

"Each medical evacuation we facilitate represents a life we help to preserve. OFATMA is committed to supporting, according to rigorous medical criteria, all Haitian citizens requiring specialized care abroad. Our objective is clear : to ensure that no Haitian is deprived of care due to lack of resources or access," stated Vikerson Garnier.

OFATMA continues its efforts to promote access to specialized care. Steps are currently being taken to allow other patients to benefit from similar medical evacuations in the coming days, thus confirming the institution's ongoing commitment to serving the Haitian population.
