On Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, Pedrica Saint Jean officially installed Stéphanie Smith as the new Minister of Tourism.

In his remarks, the outgoing Minister, Jhon Herrick Dessources, welcomed Ms. Smith's appointment to head the Ministry. He emphasized the importance of continuing the initiatives already underway to develop Haiti's tourism potential.

In her address, following the customary expressions of gratitude, Stéphanie Smith stated that she fully understood the magnitude of the mission entrusted to her "I don't promise miracles, but I promise a lot of work," she declared, calling for a collective effort to revitalize and enhance the Haitian tourism sector.

She also highlighted the important role of the diaspora in promoting Haiti abroad, while emphasizing the need to strengthen the sense of national belonging through the promotion of heritage and culture. Echoing the Creole expression "Lakay se lakay" (Home is home), Minister Smith emphasized the importance of cultivating a sense of belonging and national pride, asserting that promoting Haiti's culture, heritage, and natural resources must be central to tourism development strategies.
