iciHaiti - Economy : Haiti on the list of countries buying Dominican gold

Since the beginning of 2026, gold exports have remained the largest in terms of volume (FOB value), with India, Canada, Switzerland, the United States, and Haiti being the main buyers.

Despite its extreme poverty and lack of governance, Haiti has purchased nearly US$900,000 worth of gold from the Dominican Republic since the beginning of 2026.

Although Haiti's purchases represent only 0.87% of total purchases by major countries, Haiti's presence on this select list, dominated by wealthy nations, is noteworthy.

Haiti’s status as a buyer of gold from the Dominican Republic is recent, as no exports under tariff heading #71, which includes gold, were recorded in 2025.

Should be noted that during the first two months of 2026, approximately US$499.5 million worth of gold had already been exported by the Dominican Republic, primarily to Canada (US$225.5 million), India (US$182.3 million), Switzerland (US$58.5 million), and the United States (US$36 million).

It is worth noting that the Dominican mining sector reached a record level of exports in 2025, exceeding US$2.59 billion, a 52% increase compared to 2024. These exports represented more than 18% of the Dominican Republic’s total exports, mainly due to gold, silver, and other minerals.
