Cleanup activity in the vicinity of Toussaint Louverture International Airport

As a prelude to the official launch of the national program "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste" the Ministry of the Environment, the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), and the municipalities of Cité Soleil and Tabarre launched a cleanup activity in the vicinity of Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

The activity took place in the presence of Valéry Fils-Aimé, Minister of the Environment; Daril Balthaza, Director General of the SNGRS; the two mayors, Esaïe Beauchard (Cité Soleil) and Arsonval Alexandre (Tabarre); as well as officials and technicians from the various institutions involved.

This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Valéry Fils-Aimé's vision of strengthening solid waste management efforts throughout the country.

The Minister of the Environment reiterated that the "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste" program will be launched under the impetus of the Government, which aims to provide sustainable solutions to the problem of waste management nationwide. He emphasized that this initiative is based on the principle of "Konbit" which involves pooling the efforts and resources of public institutions, municipalities, the private sector, and the population.

The Minister also specified that the program will be deployed in two phases. The first phase will be dedicated to targeted cleaning and sanitation operations, followed by a second phase focused on raising awareness and promoting waste recovery, with the goal of transforming this environmental issue into an economic opportunity.

Daril Balthazar stressed that this activity marks the beginning of concrete mobilization within the framework of the national "Haiti Zero Waste" program. He emphasized the need for collaborative work with the municipalities of the metropolitan area to sustainably improve urban sanitation. To this end, the National Integrated Management and Safety Service (SNGRS) and the municipalities will provide equipment, human resources, and other logistical support, while the Ministry of the Environment will provide financial assistance to support the operations.

For his part, the Mayor of Tabarre welcomed the initiative and the arrival of a leadership committed to strengthening collaboration between the central government and local authorities. He emphasized the importance of this synergy in order to transform commitments into concrete actions for the benefit of the communities.
