iciHaiti - Environment : World Water Day 2026

As part of World Water Day (Sunday, March 22, 2026), celebrated this year under the theme "Where water flows, equality grows" the Ministry of the Environment emphasized that access to water is both a sustainable development issue and a key lever for reducing inequalities, particularly gender inequalities, and advocated for integrated, inclusive, and sustainable water governance.

In a context marked by climate variability, water management requires an integrated approach based on the protection of watersheds, improved governance, and the development of appropriate infrastructure, in accordance with the guidelines of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP 2022-2030).

Furthermore, the Ministry is working to make the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INARHY) fully operational. INARHY is responsible for coordinating, regulating, and monitoring interventions in the water sector at the national level.

This approach relies on the joint mobilization of public institutions, local authorities, partners, and civil society organizations, particularly environmental organizations, whose role is crucial in local management and community awareness.

In line with Haiti's international commitments and Sustainable Development Goal 6 (universal and equitable access to safe drinking water, hygiene, and sanitation by 2030), the actions undertaken by the State and its partners aim to guarantee sustainable access to water for all.
