A major step forward in Haiti towards Digital Television

The National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) announces the official publication of the decree mandating the migration from analog to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Haiti. This publication marks a historic step in the modernization of the Haitian audiovisual sector, paving the way for a more efficient, diversified, and integrated broadcasting system in the digital age.

The Council notes that this step represents significant progress in a process initiated several years ago, through a series of workshops and technical and institutional consultations conducted since 2012, bringing together national and international stakeholders in the telecommunications and audiovisual sectors.

This gradual transition is part of Haiti's international commitments, particularly to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and demonstrates the authorities' commitment to modernizing the national audiovisual sector, improving the quality of broadcasting services, and ensuring optimal management of the radio frequency spectrum.

The migration to DTT represents a major structural reform, aiming to gradually replace analog television with a more efficient digital system that meets current technological standards.

This transition will be phased in, with a period of coexistence between the analog and digital systems before the gradual switch-off of the analog signal. Appropriate technical, regulatory, and institutional measures will be implemented, along with support mechanisms for broadcasters and households, to facilitate adaptation to the new technological requirements.

CONATEL, as the regulatory body for the telecommunications sector, is committed to ensuring an orderly and inclusive transition, respecting the continuity of public service, equitable access, and institutional transparency. It also reaffirms its commitment to intensifying awareness and information campaigns nationwide.
