Ouanaminthe : Launch of the «Konbit Haiti Zero Waste» Program

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Ouanaminthe, the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with the Mayor's office and the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), launched the national program "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste".

José Tidé, the Mayor of Ouanaminthe, applauded this initiative, which he considers particularly important for the municipality, which faces resource constraints in effectively addressing the challenges related to waste management. He welcomed the support of the Ministry of the Environment and the arrival of this structuring program in the town.

In his address, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, called for collective awareness in favor of better waste management. He emphasized that the success of this program depends above all on the commitment of everyone, from local authorities to citizens.

He also noted that the "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste" program is part of the Ministry's roadmap, particularly regarding improving living conditions and waste management. He further emphasized the spirit of "Konbit" which fosters joint mobilization of the public sector, the private sector, and civil society organizations.

For his part, Daril Baltazar, Director General of the SNGRS, reiterated his institution's commitment to supporting the program's implementation on the ground by mobilizing the necessary resources and assisting local authorities in waste collection and management operations. He also urged the population to adopt responsible behaviors, an essential condition for the long-term success of this initiative.

Furthermore, starting this Monday, April 27, dredging work will begin in the city of Gonaïves.
