On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Kathia Verdier, the Minister for Haitians Living Abroad, met with the Cuban Ambassador to Haiti, Ricardo García Nápoles.

The discussions focused on the situation of several thousand Haitians living in Cuba. The two parties addressed the integration of the Haitian community, their relationship with their country of origin, and the various challenges they face daily.

Minister Verdier emphasized the need to strengthen ties between Haitians in Cuba and Haiti, so that they do not feel isolated or forgotten. She also reiterated the importance of the Haitian state fulfilling its role of protecting all its citizens, regardless of their location.

For his part, the Cuban Ambassador expressed his willingness to continue collaborating with Haitian authorities to improve the living conditions of Haitians and facilitate their integration into Cuban society.

The Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad reaffirms its commitment to stand with the diaspora, listen to its concerns, and act for its well-being, respecting its rights and dignity.
