The Haitian Consul in Santiago (DR) met with the Protestant Federation of Haitian Pastors

Herns Laveaux, the Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago, met with the Protestant Federation of Haitian Pastors in the Dominican Republic to discuss the issue of identity documents for Haitian children born in the Dominican Republic.

This meeting, which brought together representatives of the Federation from across the Dominican Republic, provided an opportunity to introduce the new Director for the Cibao region, Pastor Dial Jean, who took the opportunity to outline the situation of Haitian nationals in that region. Discussions focused on the difficulties the local system faces in providing timely identity documents to Haitians born in the Dominican Republic, as well as the obstacles they encounter in obtaining these documents due to their irregular immigration status.

The Consul presented the guidelines and actions to be taken to improve the situation of Haitian nationals within the jurisdiction. The Consulate and the Federation agreed to work together to find concrete, sustainable, and above all, immediate solutions to facilitate access to the administrative documents to which Haitian citizens are entitled.

The Consulate pledged to support our compatriots in their efforts and promised to advocate for respect for the dignity of Haitians, particularly regarding compliance with the deportation protocol, which is currently a central concern.

Acting Consul Herns Laveaux reaffirmed his commitment to assisting the Haitian community, within the limits of his authority, and to ensuring respect for the rights of every Haitian living within his jurisdiction.
