US$20 million for the Gang Suppression Force by Dom. Republic

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Roberto Álvarez, the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in New York with Ambassador Mike Waltz, the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, to whom he delivered a personal letter from President Luis Abinader to Donald Trump. This letter aims to strengthen bilateral coordination regarding Haiti and regional trade.

Roberto Álvarez and Mike Waltz emphasized the need to maintain continued international support for Haiti on the operational, logistical, financial, and political levels, according to the official Dominican statement.

The Dominican Republic's contribution is on the table. Álvarez reiterated to Waltz Santo Domingo's specific commitments:

Medical Evacuation Services (MEDEVAC) : The Dominican Republic will make its territory available for the evacuation and medical care of members of the Gang Repression Force who require it.

United Nations Trust Fund :

The Dominican Government confirmed its contribution of US$20 million over the next two years to the fund financing the GSF.

Logistical Support :

Both parties emphasized the strategic role of the United Nations Security Service (UNSOH) Logistics Support Office located in the Dominican Republic.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Alvarez proposed the Dominican Republic as a possible host country for the next regional trade and investment meeting.
