Surgical caravan : A 16-year-old girl gives birth to twins 08/06/2026 09:37:09
Early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026, as part of the Free Surgical Caravan launched by the Minister of Public Health, a 16-year-old girl successfully underwent a cesarean section at the Lazile Community Referral Hospital (CRH). The procedure resulted in the birth of healthy twins, while preserving the life of the young mother, whose pregnancy was considered high-risk due to her age and vulnerable circumstances. This intervention was part of the mobilization of medical teams from Port-au-Prince to support the Nippes Health Directorate. Alongside local staff and the Cuban Medical Brigade, these professionals are providing care to numerous patients at the two sites selected for the caravan: Sainte-Thérèse Hospital in Miragoâne and the L’Asile Community Referral Hospital. Since the launch of the Free Surgical Caravan, nearly one hundred cases have already been treated surgically at the two sites (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47640-miragoane-prepares-to-host-a-large-free-surgical-caravan.html). These results demonstrate the tangible impact of this initiative on access to specialized care in Nippes. The professionals mobilized from the central level to provide support are: Dr. Stéphanie Lubin; Dr. Jacques Richard Pétiton; Dr. Floris Nési; Dr. Gaudin Daëlle Bervally; Dr. Jean Mary Aubourg; and Dr. Pierre James. The birth of these twins is a powerful symbol of the impact of this caravan, which allows families often facing significant hardship to access specialized care free of charge. For the young mother, her family, and the community, this procedure represents above all a victory for life and hope. See also : IH/ iciHaiti
