Raising awareness among young people about the preservation of natural resources

As part of the celebration of World Ocean Day (June 8), the haitian Ministry of the Environment, through the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP), in partnership with the Initiative for the Integrated Environment in Haiti (IEDIH), the Town Hall of Corail, the Local Support Committee and several community stakeholders, organized an environmental awareness activity at the National School of Corail, in the Grande Anse department.

This initiative aimed to raise awareness among young people of the importance of protecting oceans, mangroves and coastal ecosystems, while strengthening their commitment to the preservation of natural resources.

More than fifty students took part in this day marked by discussion sessions, educational activities and an awareness walk through the town. Equipped with signs bearing environmental protection messages, participants launched a call for the protection of mangroves and the coastline, essential to the resilience of coastal communities in the face of climate change.

The interventions highlighted the fundamental role of mangroves in protecting the coasts, preserving biodiversity and maintaining the livelihoods of local populations. Participants were also made aware of the consequences of the degradation of marine and coastal ecosystems as well as the concrete actions that can be taken to protect them.

Through this World Oceans Day, the Ministry of the Environment reaffirms its commitment to supporting local communities in the preservation of marine and coastal resources, considered essential levers of climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
