Haiti's Prime Minister meets with the Mayor of Boston

On Friday, June 12, 2026, on the sidelines of activities surrounding Haiti's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met with Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston.

In addition to the Prime Minister, the meeting was attended by Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Kathia Verdier, Minister for Haitians Living Abroad; James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry; and Ruthzee Louijeune, President of the Boston City Council.

Discussions focused on the current situation in Haiti and the actions taken by the government to restore security throughout the country and create the necessary conditions for holding free, credible, inclusive, and transparent elections. Migration issues and the essential contribution of the Haitian diaspora to the country's economic and social development were also addressed.

Fils-Aimé emphasized the importance of renewing the HOPE (Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Through Partnership for Encouragement) business programs and extending the HELP (Haiti Economic Lift Program), which support thousands of jobs in Haiti. He reiterated that investment and job creation remain essential drivers for providing better opportunities for Haitian youth and fostering sustainable growth.

The Prime Minister and the Mayor of Boston also commended the remarkable contribution of the Haitian community to the economic, social, cultural, and academic life of the Boston area.

The Prime Minister also presented the steps taken by the Government to pilot a program allowing Haitians living abroad to participate in the presidential election. He stressed the importance of this initiative in strengthening ties between Haiti and its diaspora and promoting greater inclusion of Haitians living abroad in national life.
