The 2026 World Cup comes to Haiti's IDPs camps

In the camps for displaced persons in the Central Department, the cries of joy, applause, and the excitement of football resonated far beyond the stadiums.

Thanks to an initiative led by the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), in collaboration with the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), several accommodation sites were equipped with 100-inch (254 cm diagonal) televisions, solar panels, and batteries, allowing displaced families to fully experience the passion of the World Cup.

This action goes far beyond simply distributing equipment. It offers beneficiaries moments of relaxation, sharing, and togetherness in a context marked by numerous hardships. Gathered around a screen, children, young people, and adults can forget, for a moment, the hardships of displacement and rediscover a sense of normalcy.

Powered by adapted energy kits, the installed equipment allows communities to follow the games even in areas where access to electricity remains limited. This concrete response combines social support, inclusion, and access to information.

Through this initiative, the Government reaffirms its commitment to supporting displaced populations not only in meeting their basic needs, but also in activities that promote well-being, social cohesion, and hope.
